It all started St. Patrick’s Day with a desire to find some Irish music. This lead to an internet search of Irish bands/musicians and a hunger to hear new music. To be fair, it wasn’t all new material that I wanted to hear, but that certainly drove the list. As I perused the list, I realized I didn’t want just music or styles that I knew, I wanted whatever caught my eye (from a band, song title, or album title standpoint). I formed this St. Paddy’s Day Playlist:
Be forewarned, this is just a random playlist of songs – they haven’t been edited for a proper mix or for style or for anything else – something simply caught my attention. It’s raw and there are things on the list I really like and things I just attribute to the moment.
This reminds me that I never got to do a musical year in review for 2014, which is a shame because there were, in my opinion, some gems. With that in mind, here are some notable 2014 offerings (in no particular order):
Ariel Pink – Pom Pom: Dinosaur Carebears
Beck – Morning Phase – Wave
Brody Dalle – Diploid Love – Carry On
Caribou – Our Love – Can’t Do Without You
Future Islands – Singles – Seasons Change (Waiting On You)
Hamilton Leithauser – Black Hours – 11 O’Clock Friday Night
Hundred Waters – The Moon Rang Like A Bell – Chambers (Passing Train)
Lana Del Rey – Ultraviolence – Ultraviolence
The New Pornographers – Brill Bruisers – Brill Bruisers
The War on Drugs – Lost in the Dream – Red Eyes
What Moon Things – What Moon Things – The Astronaut
Wild Beasts – Present Tense – Wanderlust
Feel free to share anything that caught your eye or ear from 2014 or so far in 2015.
