This week’s offering comes from Los Angeles’ own HoneyHoney and their album III. The album came out earlier this month, but I’m a bit behind on checking out new music. Upon first listen, there’s all sorts goodness happening. There’s plenty of rock, blues, country, soul, and even pop mixed into this album. There’s something fresh and yet very familiar with these songs. I’ve yet to pinpoint exactly what it is, but I’m leaning towards Suzanne Santo’s vocals.
This album reminds me of lazy summer days – like a small town’s 4th of July celebration. The heat of the day is just breaking as the sun dips beneath the tree line and in a little band shell you can hear these strains cutting through the sticky summer evening. Some people are sitting or laying on blankets in front of the musicians as the grasshoppers try to chirp in tune.
