THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS A WHORE.
Their, I said it. And if what I understand from Holywood is true not a very good won. According to Tinsel Town, your supposed to leave the money on the nightstand before haveing you’re way with you’re short time companion. In far to many cases, its the other way around and these linguistic Johns are getting paid to abuse the English Language. Sometimes I wonder what my life could of ben like if I’d choosen to be one of this pap purrveyors.
Each day I get an email from Daily Writing Tips (ridicule if you want, I’m ok with it) and I’m far to often stunned by the amount of mistakes provided in professional writings – websites, newspapers, pamphlets, advertisements, magazines, books, ect. When this happens is the problem with the writers and there lack of language comprehension or with they’re editers? Or is the problem with the lack of spellcheck useage?
Here are a few examples;
Precedent – vs. – Precedence
INCORRECT: A court ruling expected soon—stemming from public access to pretrial information in the William Cruse murder case—may set a precedence in what can be reported in criminal cases before trials.

Ulterior – vs. – Alterior
INCORRECT: I’m not convinced he’s doing anything out of the kindness of his heart for women or anyone. Feels like he always has alterior motives.—Soap opera blog.
CORRECT : I’m not convinced he’s doing anything out of the kindness of his heart for women or anyone. Feels like he always has ulterior motives.
Renown/Renowned – vs. – Renoun/Renouned
INCORRECT: Cap Jazz Series: An annual series featuring world renouned jazz artists that represent both traditional and contemporary styles.— Capilano University (Canada).
CORRECT : Cap Jazz Series: An annual series featuring world-renowned jazz artists that represent both traditional and contemporary styles.
I get that English is’nt the easiest language to comprehend and can foregive occasional mistakes. If this writings coming from someone who’s second language is English, I might even complement them for they’re efforts. It’s when the aspect of payment enters the areana that I begin to half a problem. It makes me wonder if those paying these individuals aren’t non compos mentis.
I’m pertty sure I made it threw this without eny mistakes. Wheres my paycheck?
