This week brings us the new release, Zipper Down, from Eagles of Death Metal. Once again I find myself behind the curve in hearing about new music as I just happened to stumble upon this band and then learned this is their fourth studio album. Music fans more savvy than I already knew this was yet another vehicle for Josh Homme (formerly of Kyuss, but still of Queens of the Stoneage, Them Crooked Vultures, and many others).
Ok, so what if multiple tracks (including this one) are really remakes of Jesse Hughes songs from his Boots Electric album Honkey Kong? There’s plenty of whirling dervish guitars, self-deprecation, and nods to Mr. Show (K.S.O.F.M.) and Duran Duran (Save a Prayer) to go around. Oh, and if you haven’t heard how the band’s name came about, you should check out the story from their Bio page. Amusing stuff.
