For all the female readers returning to the site or visiting it for the first time, allow me to wish you all a Happy International Women’s Day. How did you celebrate it? By taking charge of a difficult situation and owning it with steely determination? Discover hidden depths of strength and empathy when confronting a difficult coworker? Enter your manager’s office and layout a list of achievements to convince that person that you’re a valuable asset deserving of their respect and fair compensation? Treat yourself to at least an hour of doing something you absolutely enjoy? Perhaps you simply tackled your day with your usual grace and understanding? Did you spend your day shaking the tree?
If you’re unfamiliar with the song, here’s an excerpt from the lyrics:
Changing your ways, changing those surrounding you
Changing your ways, more than any man can do
Open your heart, show him the anger and pain, so you heal
Maybe he’s looking for his womanly side, let him feelYou had to be so strong
And you do nothing wrong
Nothing wrong at all
We’re gonna to break it down
We have to shake it down
Shake it all around
Love that song! This day also reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Jim Carrey.
Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes.

Great song! Thanks for sharing. Yesterday I was so busy that I forgot that it was Women’s Day until I saw a tired looking woman coming off the bus carrying a single carnation. In the spirit of many hats, I worked my 9 hours yesterday, came home to mother for another 2 and forced myself to stay away to be a companion for my hubby. Groundbreaking tree shaking? no. Just another day in the life for which I am grateful. Grateful for the trailblazers that went ahead of me to give me the opportunity to have a choice in the direction my life goes.
However, I participated in a Women’s BrewDay on Saturday. We brewed a Brett-style Ale. The proceeds will go to a local women’s organization geared to help adjust recent female migrants to life in Canada.
On another note, I was saddened by a few internet memes decrying feminism as a ‘boo hoo’ day or an excuse to get away with lacklustre performance. Free speech for all (with or without ovaries) but as someone who has worked in a male dominated industry for about 20 years, I certainly disagree.
