Music Mondays: Alice Bag

I’m trying something new for this week’s Music Monday edition. Rather than posting a single video or a shortened playlist  because YouTube posters haven’t kept up, I’m giving Spotify a shot. With Google Play, Amazon Prime, and the late Grooveshark, I’ve never felt the need to use Spotify, but something struck me recently and I decided to give it a try. It’s okay, but that’s not why the three to five of you are here. You’re here for the music, so let’s get to it. This week we’re listening to Alice Bag’s eponymous debut release. Not familiar with Alice Bag? That’s okay, I wasn’t either until last Saturday. According to her site, “Alice Bag is a singer/songwriter, musician, author, artist, educator and feminist.”

Given her ties to punk rock, you might believe this album is filled to the brim with frenetic arrangements and seething bile. What you’re going to find among all these rock tracks, though, is a bit of 60s Motown, psychedelia, and beach rock all with a bit of punk sensibilities. Tracks run from fist pumpers to 60s/70s Bond-like ballads to a Latin dance number. There’s plenty going on with this album, so hop on board and enjoy the ride.

Have something to add?
